Barry Holds Off Volleyball on Saturday

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Julie Teixeira had 17 kills and helped Barry hit .312 as the visiting Bucs took a 3-1 win (25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17) over Eckerd College on Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center.

Stefanie Sveiven had 13 kills on 26 swings (.462 percentage) as Barry (13-3, 8-2 Sunshine State Conference) won its eighth league match in 10 outings.

Ady Alcantara also had 12 kills, while setter Libby Walter had 39 assists and eight digs.

Freshman Lindsay Biggs had a match-high 18 kills to lead the Tritons (7-14, 1-10 SSC). The Topeka, Kan., native also recorded her 10th double-double on the year after recording 10 digs.

Ariana Chinn also had 13 kills.

The Bucs hit .300 in the opening set, while the Tritons struggled to find a rhythm offensively. Eckerd was hampered by 10 attack errors, as the Bucs took an early lead.

The second set went back and forth throughout, with neither team holding more than a two-point advantage. The Tritons fought off one set point before Milena Bukinac gave Barry a 2-0 lead with a service ace.

The Eckerd offense came alive in the third set, hitting a team-best .429 – keyed by 17 kills. Biggs, Chinn and Alex Laton combined for 12 kills with just three errors.

In the fourth, though, Barry came right back – hitting .484 with only one error to cinch it.

The Tritons will continue SSC action at home on Wednesday, hosting Saint Leo at 7 p.m.
