TAMPA, Fla. – Kaleigh Cunningham had 10 kills on 15 swings, as fourth-ranked Tampa swept the Eckerd College volleyball team 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 27-25) on Tuesday evening at the Martinez Center.
Melissa Vanderhall and Sam Macks combined for 17 kills on 26 attacks, as the Spartans (19-3, 8-1 Sunshine State Conference) swept the regular season series against Eckerd (6-13, 0-9).
Tampa hit .344 as a team, while the Spartan defense held Eckerd to a .096 hit percentage.
Lindsay Biggs, Olivia Fraser and Alex Laton led the Tritons with six kills each.
After the Spartans jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Eckerd made a run in the third set. Down 22-18, the Tritons won six of the next seven points to take a 24-23 lead.
Tampa, though, won four of the final five points to close it out.
The Tritons will return home at 7 p.m. on Friday, hosting Nova Southeastern at the McArthur Center.
