MONTEVALLO, Ala. - After a 30-minute delay prior to the game, the Eckerd Tritons (1-1) defeated the Montevallo Falcons (2-1) in a key south regional matchup on Friday night.
Luke Sheekey scored the game-winning goal and notched an assist to lead Eckerd in victory.
The Tritons struck first in the 31st minute when senior defender
Will Thacker found the back of the net after receiving a quick pass from Sheekey for a first half 1-0 lead.
In the second frame, the Falcons equalized on a goal by Arran McCarthy in the 71st minute, scoring after playing a cross into the 18-yard box.
Sheekey would have the final say in the 83rd minute, however, as
Colin Kuhn found him on a cross, accounting for the go ahead strike and an Eckerd victory.
Domenic Spedaliere made seven saves in a winning effort for the Tritons while Robert Mueller just made one save on three shots on goal. Eckerd won the match despite a 17-8 disadvantage in total shots while the Falcons also took 12 corner kicks to the Tritons' 2.
Eckerd will return to the pitch on Sunday as they travel to Americus, Ga. to take on Georgia Southwestern at 1pm.
