Docking Scores Game-Winning Run as Eckerd Softball Makes History in Marathon

MELBOURNE, Fla. - It took 12 innings but the Eckerd Tritons (20-28, 3-10 SSC) made history on Thursday afternoon as they defeated the Florida Tech Panthers (14-18, 2-8 SSC) by a score of 1-0 at Tech's Nancy Bottge Field. With the victory, the Tritons have set a new program mark for wins in a single season.

Eckerd starter Alex Koronkiewicz and the Panthers' Brianna Barth were engaged in a pitcher's duel, holding the opposite lineup in check for 11 complete innings. Koronkiewicz did one inning better, however, as the Tritons were able to turn a lead-off single in the top of the 12th by Emma Docking into the eventual game-winning run.

After Docking stole second, Amanda Kolonick smashed an infield single to third base but a throwing error on the same play allowed Docking to score the go-ahead run.

Koronkiewicz earned the win after going the distance for the Tritons, throwing 12 complete shutout innings while scattering eight hits and striking four Panthers. Barth took the tough-luck loss for Florida Tech.

The same two teams will return to the diamond on Friday to conclude their SSC series with doubleheader action beginning at 1pm.
