ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After trailing 4-1 going into the third inning, the Eckerd Tritons (22-29) scored eight unanswered runs to overtake the Southeastern Fire (35-18) by a score of 9-4 on Tuesday evening at the Turley Athletic Complex.
The Tritons took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by
Minervino Labrador. That lead would be short-lived, however, as the Fire would go on to score four unearned runs, including a three-run blast by leadoff man Edwin McPhee.
The Tritons got two of those runs back in the bottom of the third on a two-run single by Mike Sinicola, making it 4-3. Eckerd regained the lead they very next inning as they plated three runs on a two-run double by
Joe Dabah and a run-scoring single by
Dan Branca, giving the Tritons a 6-4 lead.
The Tritons would add three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, two of which came on a two-run double by
Matt Heller, giving the Tritons the 9-4 lead.
Johnny Lancaster earned the win for Eckerd after throwing three innings of two-hit shutout ball while Adam Osteen took the loss for the Fire.
Francisco Collazo earned the save for Eckerd.
The Tritons will return to the diamond on Friday, May 1 as it travels to Boca Raton, Fla. to battle the Lynn Fighting Knights to begin a three-game SSC series beginning at 3pm.
