Women's Soccer Beaten by Barry, 7-1

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- The Barry Buccaneers (3-9, 1-3 SSC) exploded for a 7-1 win over Eckerd (1-8-1, 0-5 SSC) in Sunshine State Conference women's soccer action at Buccaneer Field on Saturday night. Melissa Madrid had a hat trick, while Lainie Ferring added a goal and three assists.

Haley Struthers got the Bucs on the board at the 1:06 mark, taking a feed from Lainie Ferring off a free kick and heading the ball home past Triton keeper Marisa Berger.

Madrid struck for her first goal, and the eventual game-winner, in the 11th minute. Morgan Ault sent a long pass up the left side and Madrid out-raced the defense to get a one-on-one opportunity with Berger and buried a shot to the far post.

In the 20th minute, Michelle Tarasiuk hooked up with Ferring. Ferring lifted a cross in from the right side and Tarasiuk ripped a shot from right at the top of the 18-yard box.

Ferring closed out the first-half fireworks by stealing a clearance just outside the 18 and blasting a shot off the bottom of the crossbar and into the goal.

With the Bucs up 5-0, the Tritons put together their only dangerous chance of the night. Maggie Swanbeck sent a feed to Emily Johnson near the penalty mark and Johnson found the back of the net with her first touch.

But the Bucs regrouped to score twice more, with Katie Lamendola assisting on both. In the 80th and 85th minutes, Lamendola caught the Tritons pushed too far forward and played long passes that ended in goals, the first to Madrid and the second to Brianni Lorenzo.

Emily Pratt earned her first win in goal, making three saves. Berger took the loss for the Tritons allowing four goals without making a save, while Cassie Burke had three saves off the bench, but also allowed three goals.

Eckerd will return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 14 as it hosts Tampa at 7pm
