Box Score BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Eckerd volleyball team pushed No. 12 Lynn to five sets, taking the opening and third frames before falling 3-2 on Friday night on the road.
Eckerd started strong against the Fighting Knights from the opening serve, winning the first set 25-17 before Lynn answered with a 25-23 victory in the second. The Tritons then produced a late comeback to claim the third set 26-24. Lynn responded with a 25-11 fourth-set victory before edging Eckerd 15-13 in the decisive fifth frame.
The Tritons controlled the opening set behind an efficient offensive performance. Eckerd broke away from a 17-16 advantage with six straight points to extend its lead to 23-16 before closing out the frame 25-17. Eckerd hit .355 in the set with 12 kills and just one error while holding Lynn to a .027 hitting percentage and forcing nine miscues.
The second set remained close throughout. Eckerd built a 21-18 advantage late, but Lynn rallied to even the score at 21-21 before finishing the frame on a 7-2 run for the 25-23 win.
Eckerd answered with a resilient comeback in the third. The Tritons trailed 15-12 and later 18-16 before battling back to level the set at 18-18. The teams traded points down the stretch, with Lynn moving ahead 23-22. Eckerd answered to tie the frame at 23 before moving in front 24-23 following an error by the home team. After Lynn pulled even again, the Tritons claimed the final two points to complete the comeback, 26-24. The Tritons committed no attacking errors in the frame, hitting .294 with 10 kills. Lynn forced a fifth set after taking the fourth 25-11.
The deciding frame remained tight throughout. Eckerd jumped ahead 3-1 before Lynn responded, and neither side led by more than three points the rest of the way. The Tritons erased a late deficit to tie the set at 13-13, but Lynn captured the final two points for the 15-13 win.
Seiler Hruska led the Tritons with 11 kills while adding 16 digs. Natalie Aniol and Jaelynn Tunley each added nine kills, while Tunley also recorded 13 digs and two aces. Hayden Nash totaled eight kills and five blocks, and Peyton Walker added five blocks while hitting .308.
Grace Dumont distributed 35 assists with three blocks, while Sydney Williams paced the back row with 17 digs.
The team will be back in action tomorrow to face Nova Southeastern.
