FORT VALLEY, Ga. -- The Eckerd Tritons softball team picked up a pair of non-conference wins on the road on Saturday, defeating the Fort Valley State Wildcats by scores of 8-0 and 6-0.
In game one,
Ella Coiner and
Abby Lucas each collected a pair of RBI singles in the team's opening at-bat to give the Tritons a 2-0 lead after an inning of action. Following a scoreless second, Coiner notched her second RBI of the day with a sac fly to bring the score to 3-0.
Eckerd broke it open with a four-spot in the fourth, beginning with
Lex Difato's two-run double to begin the scoring surge. Coiner continued to add to her RBI total with two more to close out the frame and extend the cushion for the Tritons out to 7-0.
Gracie Ciccarello's RBI single in the fifth moved the game into run rule territory before the Tritons shut down the game with a three-up, three-down bottom half.
Brandilyn Reymer struck out seven and allowed just two hits in the win. Difato led the way offensively with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate.
In game two, Eckerd posted four runs in their opening at-bat to take a commanding lead early. Two errors accounted for the first two to cross for the team before
Molly Scott's RBI fielder's choice sent home the third.
Maddie Bostack's sac fly capped off the four-run frame for the Tritons.
Four innings passed without a run both ways until Eckerd added one in the sixth and seventh innings to extend its cushion. Difato collected an RBI hit, and Lucas swiped home to stretch the margin to six.
Starting pitcher
Elise Roy went the distance and earned the win for Eckerd.
The Tritons will return to SSC action next weekend vs. Florida Tech.
