WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Eckerd Tritons softball team rallied to defeat the Rollins Tars on Saturday by a score of 5-3.
Starting pitcher
Brandilyn Reymer worked around a pair of runners in scoring position in the opening inning as the two teams went without a run for the first two frames. The Tars were the first to strike in the third, plating all three of their runs for the contest on two hits.
The 3-0 lead for the home team remained intact until
Lex Difato belted her first career home run in the fifth to put the Tritons on the board. Eckerd added one more in the sixth on a
Gracie Ciccarello single, but the tying run was thrown out at home plate to keep the score at 3-2 in favor of Rollins.
Reymer pitched out of a one-out error in the bottom of the sixth to keep the Tritons within a run entering the seventh. Difato began the rally with a leadoff double and came into score after
Hannah Taylor's RBI single turned into a Rollins error on the same play. Two batters later,
Faith Wharton delivered a two-run, go-ahead double to give the Tritons their first lead of the game. Reymer retired the Tars in order in the bottom half to seal the win.
Difato finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, while
Maddie Bostack also added two hits. Reymer struck out seven and earned her 18th win of the season on the mound.
Games two and three will be tomorrow.
