ST. PETERSBURG – The Eckerd Tritons baseball team fell to the Rollins Tars on Saturday by a score of 21–4.
Rollins took an early lead in the first inning, putting them ahead 3–0 before adding another in the second for a four-run advantage. The Tritons responded as
Ean Gimson doubled and scored on a single by
Jake Ambrosio to narrow the gap to 4–1. The fourth inning saw Rollins extend its lead significantly, bringing the score to 9–1.
In the fifth, Ambrosio reached on an error, and
Corey Hodierne and
Luis Garrido each contributed RBI singles with
Kam Gelwick adding a sacrifice fly for three runs to the Tritons' total. Rollins had already added two runs earlier in the inning, maintaining a lead of 11–4. The Tars continued to build their lead in the seventh before posting a seven-spot in the eighth inning.
Gelwick recorded two hits, including a double, and contributed one RBI. Gimson added two hits, one of which was a double, and scored a run. Hodierne tallied one hit, one run, and one RBI, while Ambrosio collected one hit, drove in a run, and scored once.
The Tritons will face Rollins again at noon Sunday, April 26, at Turley Athletic Complex.
