ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Eckerd baseball team fell to the Rollins Tars on Sunday in the series finale by a score of 17-7.
Eckerd responded to early runs from the Tars the third inning when
Christian Cabina singled to center field, driving in
Joey Bazydlo and
Kam Gelwick to cut the deficit to 6-2. In the fourth inning, the Tars added two more runs, increasing their lead to 8-2, but the Tritons managed to score one run through a balk, bringing the score to 8-3 in the bottom half.
The Tars added another run in the fifth inning with a solo homer, but he Tritons narrowed the gap in the seventh inning with a four-run rally. Cabina's RBI single and
Jake Ambrosio's two-RBI hit highlighted and helped Eckerd get within three at 10-7. Rollins added seven in the eighth to push the game into run rule territory.
Cabina led the team with three RBI and added two hits. Gelwick scored twice and Ambrosio supported the offense with two RBI and two hits.
Corey Hodierne also added a run and a stolen base.
Eckerd will be back in action next weekend to host No. 2 Tampa.
