ST. PETERSBURG – The Eckerd Tritons baseball team dropped the series opener to the Rollins Tars on Friday by a score of 24-4.
After a scoreless first inning, the Tars added three total runs across the next two frames before breaking the game open with a six-spot in the fourth. Rollins went without a tally in the fifth before eight more in the sixth eventually building a 21-0 lead after 6.5 innings.
Eckerd added four in the bottom of the seventh, beginning with
Gabe Campos' RBI single for the team's first run. Bases-loaded walks to
Luis Garrido and
Christian Cabina brought in the next two, and
Hunter Rebhan delivered an RBI single to cap off the four-run surge.
Campos and
Joey Bazydlo led the way two hits apiece for Eckerd.
Game two will be tomorrow at 2 p.m.
