Box Score ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons women's tennis earned a 4-3 victory over the No. 27 Jefferson Rams on Monday.
Eckerd held the early advantage after wins in two of the three doubles matches. After dropping the first match to finish at No. 3,
Maialen Idiakez and
Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti evened the tally with a 6-4 decision at No. 2.
Olivia Lindestaf and
Catherine Cole clinched the first point with a 6-4 win at No. 1 to give the Tritons a 1-0 lead entering singles.
Lindestaf made it a 2-0 advantage for Eckerd with a quick 6-0, 6-1 victory at the top spot to begin singles action. Jefferson answered with the next three wins to take a 3-2 lead in the match, but Cole collected a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 to even the score. At No. 6,
Laura Ullrich battled through a tiebreaker in set one to win 7-6 (7-4) before clinching her match and the win for the team with a 6-4 score in the second set.
With the victory, Eckerd improves to 6-2 on the season, its best start since records began being tracked in 2008. The team will be back in action Wednesday vs. Edinboro.
