ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Eckerd women's tennis team secured the doubles point and won five of six singles matches to defeat West Chester by a score of 6-1 on Sunday
The Tritons opened the match by taking two of the three doubles contests. Olivia Lindestaf and Catherine Cole set the tone with a dominant 6-0 victory at the No. 1 position, while Maialen Idiakez and Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti added a 6-4 win at No. 2 to clinch the point.
Eckerd carried that momentum into singles play, claiming five matches to seal the team victory.
Cole was perfect at the No. 5 spot, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win without dropping a game. Lindestaf nearly matched the effort at the top position with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles. Laura Ullrich also turned in a strong performance, posting a 6-2, 6-0 decision in the No. 4 slot.
Sanchez Bronzetti added a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, while Idiakez earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 to round out the Tritons' scoring.
Eckerd improves to 5-2 with the win and will take on No. 27 Jefferson tomorrow.
