BARTOW, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons softball team picked up a pair of non-conference neutral-site wins on Wednesday, defeating the Dominican (N.Y.) Chargers by a score of 9-3 before taking down Slippery Rock by a score of 10-2.
In game one vs. the Chargers,
Lex Difato began the game with a single before stealing a pair of bases and coming in on an error for the game's first run.
Jazz Jones kept the scoring going in the opening frame, sending a two-run double into the outfield to move the margin out to three.
Kaili Cannon accounted for the final RBI of the inning and the Tritons led 4-0 after one.
Following a scoreless frame, the Chargers put up a run in each of the third and fourth innings to shrink the gap in half.
Hannah Taylor earned one of those back in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, and Eckerd took a 5-2 lead into the fifth.
Dominican inched closer with another tally in the sixth, but the Tritons offense broke the game open with four runs in the bottom half. Taylor drove in the first run after the team loaded the bases with nobody out to start.
Ella Coiner's sac fly made it a four-run lead for the team again before an error and bases-loaded walk brought in the final two scores.
Julia Heter worked around two hits in the top half of the seventh to close the game at its 9-3 score and earn her second win on the mound.Â
Difato and Jones each finished the game with three hits apiece.
In game two vs. Slippery Rock, the Tritons scored multiple runs in each of the first three innings. Taylor's double brought in the first run of the game, and Jones' RBI groundout made it a 2-0 lead after an inning of play. Taylor continued her successful day with another run-scoring hit in the second, this time driving in a pair with her single before Coiner added the third run of the frame with an RBI groundout. The Tritons held a 5-0 advantage entering the third.Â
Eckerd put up another three-spot in the ensuing inning, this time beginning with Cannon's run-scoring groundout. Difato added an RBI to her day with a fielder's choice that brought in a run, and Taylor notched her fourth run driven in with a double to put the team up 8-0. The Rock collected their only runs in the fourth, a pair of unearned tallies to cut the gap to six, but RBI from Jones and Cannon late in the game helped bring the game to a run-rule decision after six innings of play.
Brandilyn Reymer improved to 8-2 on the season on the mound and struck out eight in the process, while Taylor finished 4-for-4 with four RBI in game two.
The Tritons will be back in action Monday vs. Adelphi at home.
