WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- For what is believed to be the first time in program history, the Eckerd women's tennis team defeated the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Thursday by a score of 4-0.
Due to weather, the teams played until the match was decided.
Laura Ullrich and
Fiona Orza collected the first win of the day, defeating their opponents at No. 2 doubles by a score of 6-4.
Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti and
Maialen Idiakez sealed the doubles point with a 6-3 decision at No. 3.
In singles,
Olivia Lindestaf took the opening set at No. 1 by a score of 6-1 before earning the victory by retirement for the team's second point. Ullrich boasted a quick win at No. 6 by a score of 6-1, 6-0, and Sanchez Bronzetti clinched the match for the Tritons at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph. Orza and
Catherine Cole had each won sets in their respective matches by the time the contest was decided.Â
Eckerd has now won seven straight matches. The team will be back in action next Friday to host Franklin Pierce.
