WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons men's tennis team picked up a win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Salfish on Thursday by a score of 4-0, the first win over PBA since 2010.
Due to weather, the teams played until the match was decided. Eckerd earned the doubles point with wins in two of the three contests, beginning with
Marshall Hulett and
Adrian Gheorghe collecting a quick 6-0 win at No. 2. The Sailfish secured the next match to finish at No. 1, but
Mario Kirkov and
Konrad Fischer prevailed with a 7-1 tiebreak to win No. 3 by a final of 7-6. The Tritons led 1-0 entering singles.Â
The first three matches to finish in singles went in favor of Eckerd, starting off with
Batu Ataseven's 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 2. Hulett earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 5, and Gheorghe clinched the match win fo the Tritons with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 6. Elsewhere,
Amirali Ghavam and Fischer were up a set over their opponents at No. 3 and 4.Â
Eckerd improves to 7-4 and has now won five in a row. The team will be back in action next Wednesday vs. Union (N.Y.).
