ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd women's tennis team won its sixth straight match on Tuesday, defeating the visiting Georgia College Bobcats by a score of 6-1.
The Tritons bounced back from a loss at No. 2 doubles with wins in the final two matches, claiming the point to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Olivia Lindestaf and
Catherine Cole won 6-4 at No. 1 before
Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti and
Maialen Idiakez sealed the point with a 6-4 decision at No. 3.Â
In singles, the Bobcats took the first match to finish to even the score at 1-1, but Eckerd responded with victories in the final five to cruise to a 6-1 victory. Lindestaf put the team back in front with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph at No. 1, followed by
Fiona Orza's 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 2. Idiakez clinched the match for the team with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4, while Cole and
Laura Ullrich rounded out the lineup with wins at No. 5 and 6.
Eckerd improves to 8-2 with the win and will dive back into SSC action on Thursday at Palm Beach Atlantic.
