ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons men's tennis team edged the visiting Georgia College Bobcats on Tuesday by a score of 4-3.
Eckerd fell behind early after the visitors snagged two of the three doubles matches for the early 1-0 lead.
Mario Kirkov and
Konrad Fischer got the lone win for the Tritons at No. 3 by a score of 6-1.
In singles, Eckerd took two of the first three to finish to even the score at 2-2.
Amirali Ghavam earned the first victory for the Tritons at the No. 3 position, winning by a score of 6-3, 6-3. After GCSU tallied one back at No. 1, Kirkov won a three-set battle at No. 2, bouncing back from a first-set defeat to win his match 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Marshall Hulett put the team in front for the first time with a quick 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 4 before
Adrian Gheorghe clinched the match with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 triumph at No. 6.
With the win, Eckerd improves to 6-4 on the season and has won four matches in a row. The team will be back in action Thursday at Palm Beach Atlantic.
