BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons softball team split the final two games of a three-game series on Saturday against the Lynn Fighting Knights, winning game one by a score of 8-1 before falling in the finale by a final of 4-2.
In game one, the Tritons faced a 1-0 deficit through the first three innings after the home team tallied a score in the bottom half of the second.
Faith Wharton's RBI single in the fourth evened the score before the Tritons posted three in the top of the fifth to take the lead.
Ella Coiner delivered a two-run double to put the team out in front, and
Kinsley Castro sent a single up the middle on the first pitch to cap off the three-run frame.Â
Eckerd added two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to stretch the gap to seven.
Hannah Taylor sent two home on her double in the sixth, and
Gracie Ciccarello mirrored the result with a two-run double in the seventh to help the Tritons pull away.
Eckerd posted 13 hits in the win, led by Ciccarello's 3-for-4 performance.
Elise Roy earned the win on the mound.
In game two, a pair of bases-loaded walks in the opening inning put the Tritons up 2-0 to start the contest. Lynn earned one back in the bottom half before an error put the Fighting Knights in front by a score of 3-1 during the ensuing inning.
Two scoreless frames followed. Lynn added onto its lead with a sac fly insurance run in the fifth to make it a 4-2 game. Eckerd threatened in the sixth, loading the bases with nobody out, but two plays at the plate negated any comeback threat and Lynn held on for the 4-2 win.
Eckerd sits at 17-6 on the season and will be back in action Monday at Fort Valley State.Â
