BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons softball team saw its 13-game winning streak come to an end on Friday, falling to the Lynn Fighting Knights in nine innings by a score of 8-7.
Lynn jumped in front early, building a lead of 6-0 after pushing across four in the first and two in the second. Eckerd cut the deficit in half with three in the fourth, which began with a one-out triple from
Abby Lucas to begin the rally. An infield single by
Mia Hernandez brought Lucas home before
Gracie Ciccarello doubled in Hernandez. Ciccarello came in to score later in the inning on an error.
The Fighting Knights took the 6-3 lead all the way to the final out. With two outs and the bases loaded,
Hannah Taylor sent a ball to the fence and ended up at third to clear the bases. Taylor came in to even the game at seven runs apiece on a wild pitch during the ensuing at-bat.
Lynn walked the game off on a wild pitch in the ninth to take game one of the series.
The Tritons had 13 hits as a team, led by
Lex Difato's 3-for-6 effort. Ciccarello and
Ella Coiner also added two each.
Games two and three will take place tomorrow.
