ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons men's tennis team downed the visiting Edinboro Fighting Scots on Wednesday by a final score of 5-2.
The visitors grabbed the first doubles match at the No. 3 position, but
Batu Ataseven and
Amirali Ghavam drew the team even with a 6-4 win at No. 1.
Mario Kirkov and
Valdemar Spillemose Anderson outlasted their opponents at the No. 2 spot for a 7-6 victory, taking the tiebreaker by a score of 12-10 to give the Tritons the early 1-0 lead in the match.
Ghavam made quick work of his counterpart to begin singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 score to give Eckerd a 2-0 lead. Ataseven added on with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 1, but the Fighting Scots earned one back following a three-set victory at No. 2.
Marshall Hulett collected the match-clinching point at No. 4 with his 6-2, 6-3 triumph.
Konrad Fischer picked up the final victory for the Tritons at No. 5, a 6-1, 4-6, 10-3 final score.Â
Eckerd improves to 5-4 on the season and will next host No. 35 Ferris State on Friday.
