ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons baseball team won its ninth straight game on Tuesday, defeating the visiting Winona State Warriors by a score of 11-4.
Following a scoreless opening inning, the Tritons struck for six runs in the bottom of the second to pull away early.
Dawson Jones drove in the first two runs with a single to right-center before back-to-back sacrifice flies from
Joey Bazydlo and
Ean Gimson doubled the differential to 4-0.
Corey Hodierne kept the inning going with an RBI bunt single, and
Hunter Rebhan delivered a run-scoring double to make it a 6-0 lead after two innings of play.
Eckerd put up at least one run in each of the next four innings, beginning with Bazydlo's second sac fly in the third to extend the advantage to seven.
Kam Gelwick added an RBI double in the fourth prior to Bazydlo collecting his third run batted in the following inning with a run-scoring double himself. Gimson pushed a single through the right side during the next at-bat to hit double-digit runs for the Tritons.
Christian Cabina capped off the scoring for the day with a solo home run in the sixth.
JD Hay earned the win on the mound, striking out four and allowing just one earned run.
Nick Rainey and
Sabo Graham also put up scoreless frames for Eckerd in relief. Four players notched multi-hit efforts offensively, with Bazydlo leading the way with three runs batted in.
The Tritons improve to 13-4 with the win and will step back in to SSC play this weekend when they host Lynn for a three-game series.
