ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons men's tennis team was defeated by the visiting Rollins Tars on Tuesday by a score of 6-1.
The Tars took two of three doubles matches from the Tritons to begin the contest and take a 1-0 lead into singles. Eckerd secured a win at the top doubles position as
Mario Kirkov and
Amirali Ghavam knocked off their opponent by a score of 7-6 (7-3).
Four of Rollins' five wins in singles came in straight sets. Ghavam bounced back from a first-set loss at No. 3 with a 7-5 triumph in the second, but fell in a long tiebreaker by a score of 11-9.
Adrian Gheorghe notched the lone victory in singles for the Tritons at the No. 6 slot, also coming in three sets. Gheorghe took the opener by a score of 6-4, but fell in the second set by the same score. He picked up a 10-6 victory in the third to collect the win.
Eckerd will be back in action Friday at No. 10 Florida Southern.
