ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd men's tennis team dropped a home match to the No. 1 ranked Barry Buccaneers on Sunday by a score of 6-1.
Barry took all three matches in doubles to bring a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Mario Kirkov and
Konrad Fischer battled at No. 3, but came up just short with a score of 7-5.
In singles, the Bucs grabbed five of six contests, two of which came in three sets. At No. 5, Fischer bounced back from a first-set defeat to force a third after a 6-3 win in the second, but fell by the same score in the final set.
Valdemar Spillemose Anderson also won the second set at the No. 6 spot, but came up short in the third. Kirkov collected the lone victory for the Tritons on the day with a 7-6(7-3), 2-6, 7-5 win at No. 3.
Batu Ataseven brought the No. 1 ranked player by ITA the distance in both sets, falling 7-5, 7-5 at the top spot.
Eckerd will be back in action Tuesday vs. Walsh.
