Box Score ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Eckerd Tritons women's tennis shut out the visiting New College of Florida Mighty Banyans on Wednesday, earning a 7-0 victory.
Eckerd secured the doubles point with wins in two of the three matches. Fiona Orza and Laura Ullrich made quick work of their opponents at No. 3, winning 6-0, while Olivia Lindestaf and Catherine Cole posted a 6-2 victory at the top position to give the Tritons a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Tritons went on to claim all six singles matches. Ullrich mirrored her doubles performance and did not drop a set, earning a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. Cole followed with a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 5, while Lindestaf picked up a straight-sets win at No. 1 by scores of 6-2, 6-3.
Eckerd also earned a pair of three-set victories. At No. 2, Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti rebounded from a first-set loss to claim a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win. Orza completed a 2-0 day with a 6-0, 1-6, 6-2 victory at No. 3. The Tritons rounded out the sweep with a win by default at No. 6.
With the victory, Eckerd improves to 2-1 and will return to action Friday at Rollins.
