ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over the visiting Edward Waters Tigers on Wednesday to begin the spring portion of its schedule.
All three doubles matches went in favor of the Tritons, securing the early point and a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. Fiona Orza and Laura Ullrich made quick work of their opponents at the No. 3 position with a 6-0 victory, while Valentina Sanchez Bronzetti and Maialen Idiakez followed with a 6-1 decision at No. 2. Olivia Lindestaf and Catherine Cole capped doubles action with a 6-2 triumph at the No. 1 spot.
In singles, the Tritons claimed five of six matches to secure the 6-1 team victory. Ullrich was dominant at No. 4 with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 performance, while Cole and
Soleia Rutter each dropped just one game across their straight-set wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Lindestaf earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1, and Idiakez grabbed a win with a score of 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3.
Eckerd begins the spring slate with a 1-0 record and will be back in action Monday to host No. 7 Embry-Riddle to start SSC action.
