ST. PETERSBURG – The Eckerd volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over Florida Tech on Friday night at the McArthur Center. The Tritons took the match by scores of 25-21, 25-22, 25-27, and 25-19, improving to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in SSC play. Eckerd held Florida Tech to a .029 hitting percentage while recording 55 kills, 71 digs, and 15 total blocks.
The opening set remained tight until Eckerd created separation late. With the score tied at 17-17, the Tritons scored six of the next seven points to build a 23-18 advantage. Hayden Nash and Seiler Hruska each put down kills during the stretch, while Jaiden Harris added a block assist and an ace. Sydney Williams capped the 25-21 set victory with an ace.
Florida Tech held a 21-18 advantage late in the second before Eckerd flipped the set with a closing run. Hruska helped spark the comeback, delivering a kill to even the frame at 22-22 as the Tritons scored seven of the final eight points. Three consecutive Panther attack errors then closed out the 25-22 victory and gave Eckerd a 2-0 advantage in the match.
The Panthers responded in a back-and-forth third set. Eckerd held a 23-18 advantage late in the frame, but Florida Tech rallied to level the score at 24-24. Nash put the Tritons back in front with a kill at 25-24, but the Panthers answered with the final three points to take the set, 27-25.
Eckerd quickly regained control in the fourth. After falling behind 7-6, the Tritons rattled off four straight points to move ahead 10-7. Hruska then took over offensively, recording three consecutive kills during another four-point surge that stretched the lead to 14-8. Eckerd maintained its cushion down the stretch before Grace Dumont delivered the match-ending kill for the 25-19 victory.
Hruska led the Triton attack with 18 kills on a .289 hitting percentage while adding 13 digs and two aces. Nash finished with 10 kills and a match-high eight blocks, including four solo stops. Jaelynn Tunley added nine kills and a team-high 18 digs, while Williams collected 16 digs.
Dumont filled the stat sheet with 37 assists, six kills on a .417 hitting percentage, nine digs, and two blocks. Peyton Walker added seven kills and six blocks.
Eckerd returns to action Saturday to host No. 9 Barry at 4 p.m.
