Women's basketball downs Rollins, moves into tie for first in SSC

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons women's basketball team cruised to a road win over Rollins on Saturday by a score of 71-43, collecting their seventh straight win and moving into a tie for first place in the SSC following Nova Southeastern's loss to Tampa.

Eckerd and Rollins played to a defensive battle in the opening quarter, with each team scoring just 13 points. The Tritons struggled from the floor in the frame, shooting 27 percent, but held the Tars to five made field goals. Savannah Borowicz knocked down a jumper with 43 seconds remaining to even the score heading into the second.

Eckerd found its rhythm offensively in the second quarter, shooting 53 percent while continuing to stifle Rollins on the defensive end. After trading baskets early in the period, the Tritons closed the half on a dominant 19-3 run, limiting the Tars to just one point over the final 4:55 and three points total in the final eight minutes. Ieva Korzane scored eight points during that stretch to help build a 37-20 halftime advantage. Rollins totaled just seven points in the quarter and shot 18 percent from the field.

The Tritons delivered their strongest performance in the third quarter, outscoring the home team 30-9. Eckerd connected on three triples in the opening two minutes, including two from Korzane and one by Jaylen Ostenson. Sarah Racaud's three-pointer near the midway point extended the lead to 27, and Emma Egan's layup with four minutes remaining pushed the margin past 30. Borowicz capped the quarter with a three with one minute left to give Eckerd a 67-29 lead. Eckerd scored four points in the fourth quarter but comfortably coasted to the 28-point victory.

Korzane led all scorers with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Egan narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with 16 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists in just 25 minutes. Kailyn Terrell added 11 points, while Borowicz chipped in 10 off the bench.

Eckerd improves to 16-4 overall and 11-2 in SSC play and will remain on the road to face Tampa on Wednesday.
