WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons men's basketball team fell on the road to the Rollins Tars on Saturday by a score of 90-65.
Eckerd endured a 60 percent shooting effort from the Tars in the opening half and fell behind early as the home team built a nine-point lead through the first three minutes of action. The differential reached double figures twice over the span of the next six minutes, but
Miquel Llompart's perfect 3-3 trip to the free throw line and a basket by
Carlos Cortijo kept the gap in single digits nearing the halfway point. Rollins used a late surge to grab an advantage of as many as 19 before Llompart's triple closed out the half and made it a 43-27 at the break.
Brady Patterson hit a three on the first possession of the second to cut the deficit to 13, with the two teams trading baskets and resulting in the same 13-point margin at the 11-minute mark. The Tars used a 13-6 scoring run over the next three minutes to extend the cushion out to 20 for the first time before closing out the 25-point final score.
Four players reached double figures for Rollins, led by Llompart's 14 and
Timothy Thompson's 11.
Caden Walton and
Jacob Davis each added 10.
Eckerd will be back in action Wednesday at Tampa.
