DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Eckerd Triitons men's basketball team was defeated by the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Saturday, falling on the road by a score of 99-73.
The Eagles shot 50 percent from the floor and hit eight three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes, using a 16-4 scoring outburst through the first five to take command early. A bucket from
Koa Baker and a triple by
Miquel Llompart cut the deficit back down to seven, but the gap reached 19 points over the span of the ensuing five minutes of action. The Tritons trimmed the deficit down to 13 on three different occasions throughout the remainder of the half, but it never dipped below that mark as they endured efficient shooting from the home team. The Eagles led 56-37 after the first.Â
Eckerd endured another 50 percent effort from Embry-Riddle in the second, with Eagles hitting another seven three-pointers to bring their team total to 15. A triple by
Brady Patterson with seven minutes to play capped off an 8-0 scoring run for the Tritons to close the gap down to the smallest of the second half at 15, but the Eagles countered with another big run of their own and ended up extending the cushion out to 30-plus before closing it out the 26-point win.
Llompart led Eckerd with 16 points, while
Tim Taiwo and
Caden Walton each added 13 off the bench.
The Tritons will return home on Wednesday to face Rollins.
