Volleyball sees seven-match winning streak end at Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons volleyball team saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday, falling in straight sets on the road against the Embry-Riddle Eagles.

The home team quickly doubled up the Tritons in the opening frame at 8-4 before pushing the margin out to six moments later at 12-6. Eckerd responded with four straight points to cut the deficit to two, but Embry-Riddle strung together a 9-3 scoring run to put the game out of reach. The Tritons got within five after trailing by as many as eight, but the Eagles took the opener by a score of 25-18.

A back-and-forth set followed, with neither team holding a lead of over three points. Tied at 21-21, the Tritons saw a joint block by Natalie Aniol and Peyton Walker to move out in front. Embry-Riddle answered with the next two points, but a kill from Aniol and an attack error by the home team gave Eckerd set point. The Eagles notched the final three points to steal the set by a score of 26-24. Embry-Riddle clinched the match win with a five-point victory in the third.

Kinga Michalska led the team with 10 kills, while Kaitlyn Dohs was the leader in digs with 11.

With the loss, the Tritons drop to 11-2 overall and 1-1 in the SSC. The team will be back in action on Friday to host No. 1 Lynn.
