ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons men's soccer team cruised to a home victory over the Warner Royals on Wednesday night at Johnson, winning by a score of 4-0.
After 15 minutes of scoreless action, the Tritons struck for the first time after
Harrison Thompson took a pass from
Gavin Spuler and sent it into the back of the net. Nearly 20 minutes later, Spuler picked up his second assist of the game, sending one to Connor MacKay, who knocked it off the post and into the goal. Eckerd out-shot Warner 8-2 in the opening 45 minutes and took a 2-0 lead into the break. Both of the Royals' attempts were off target in the first.
Despite combining for 18 shots in the second half, the two teams played the first 30 minutes without a goal until Thompson added to his successful night with an assist on
Aaron Ristorcelli's strike in the 80th minute. Eckerd added one more in the closing minutes as
Tristan Bassette notched a goal on a pass by
Manuel Gonzalez. The Tritons put up 11 shot attempts in the final 45 minutes and finished with 19 total for the game. For Warner, the team saw seven shots in the second, with all three on target saved by
Duran Van Woerkom.Â
With the win, Eckerd improves to 2-2-2 on the season. The team will begin conference play on Saturday with a road game at Barry.
