ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with the visiting Middle Georgia State Knights on Thursday at Johnson Field.
Eckerd controlled the opening half, sending nine shots off compared to the visitor's two. Four of the Tritons' looks came within the first 20 minutes, which included the team's only attempt on target by
Stafford Clarke.
Daniel Freire registered three shots through 45 minutes of action, while Clarke and
Sebastian Schmalbach each added two in a busy opening frame.
The Tritons endured more pressure on their side of the field in the second half, fending off five looks from Middle Georgia State that resulted in both of
Duran Van Woerkom saves in net. Eckerd posted half of its eight looks in the final 10 minutes of play, but neither team found the go-ahead strike and the game ended in a 0-0 tie.Â
Freire led all players with five shots, while the Tritons collected 17 as a team.
The team will remain home to face Flagler on Saturday.
