TAMPA, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team defeated Tampa, 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon.
The victory mark's the Tritons' first win against a conference opponent since April 7, 2010, where Eckerd defeated Tampa 5-4. This was Eckerd head coach Ben Maxwell's first SSC victory as a coach (both men and women).
The Tritons (9-9) defeated Tampa (2-12) with Eckerd taking five of six singles matches.
Tampa swept the doubles point to start the day. Tampa then went up 2-0 with a win in the No. 1 singles spot.
Kylie Misdorp and Maya Soligo quickly evened the score at 2-2, taking the No. 2 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Maialen Idiakez put the Tritons up in the No. 4 position, before Catherine Cole's three-set victory in the No. 5 spot clinched the match for the Tritons. Fiona Orza picked up a three-set victory in the No. 3 spot to seal the 5-2 victory.
Eckerd plays its final match of the regular season Saturday, traveling to Daytona Beach, Fla. to face Embry-Riddle at 1:00 PM.
