WINTER PARK, Fla. - Despite securing the doubles point, the Eckerd men's tennis team fell to No. 18 Rollins College, 5-2, on the road Wednesday afternoon.
Eckerd (9-6, 0-5) nearly swept the doubles point. In the No. 3 position, and the first pair to finish, Eric Asakura and Lukas Palla secured their victory with a 6-1 win. Batu Ataseven alongside Mario Kirkov defeated their Rollins opponents in a hard-fought match, 7-5, clinching the doubles point for the Tritons int he top slot.Â
Rollins clinched the match with five singles victories in the No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 positions. Adrian Gheorghe in the No. 5 slot defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-4 to grab a singles point for the Tritons. Palla put up a hard fight, in the No. 6 position, taking his opponent to three sets, but falling, 6-3, 1-6, 6-0.
Eckerd continues conference play on Saturday against Florida Southern College at the Fred Bullard Courts at 11:00 AM.
