ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team defeated West Chester University of Pennsylvania, 6-1 at the Bullard Courts on Senior Day, Sunday afternoon.
The Tritons (5-4) topped West Chester (0-5) after dropping the doubles point in a split decision but sweeping all six singles.
Catherine Cole and Olivia Lindestaf started off the day with a 6-2 victory in the No. 2 doubles. With the Golden Rams taking the top pairing, the doubles point was decided in the three's with Eckerd dropping the match 6-3.
After dropping the doubles point, the Tritons rallied back to take all six singles matches. Senior, Kylie Misdorp made quick work of her opponent in the top spot, with a 6-0 shutout in set one and a 6-2 victory in set two. Lindestaf took the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets. Senior Maya Soligo took the No. 3 spot 6-2, 6-1 before Maialen Idiakez clinched the win for the Tritons in the No. 6 spot. Fiona Orza and Cole completed the sweep in the No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
The Tritons return to action on Tuesday against Jefferson at the Fred Bullard Courts.
