ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team defeated Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, 6-1 at the Bullard Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Tritons (4-4) topped Edinboro (1-5) after sweeping the doubles point and nearly sweeping all six singles.
Cate Cole and Olivia Lindestaf started the Tritons with a win in the No. 2 doubles. The top pairing of Kylie Misdorp and Fiona Orza clinched the doubles point, while Maialen Idiakez and Laura Ullrich secured the doubles point sweep with a 6-3 win in the No. 3 doubles.
Lindestaf worked quickly in the No. 2 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1 in straight sets. Orza knocked off her opponent 6-2 in straight sets in the No. 3 spot. Idiakez clinched the win for the Tritons in the No. 5 draw, before Maya Soligo and Ullrich won their matches in the No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Tritons host West Chester University tomorrow at 11:00 AM for Senior Day at the Fred Bullard Courts.
