ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Despite a strong effort on the mound, the Eckerd baseball team fell to Shippensburg (Pa.), 3-0, on Friday night at the Turley Athletic Complex.
Shippensburg broke through in the second inning after a pair of two-out singles and a throwing error set up a two-run single. Eckerd had an early scoring chance in the bottom of the frame when Christian Cabina doubled to left-center, but the Tritons couldn't capitalize. The Raiders tacked on an unearned run in the sixth. Eckerd put a runner in scoring position in the fifth after a walk and an infield single by Cole Schumaker, but Shippensburg's starter got the Raiders out of the inning unscathed. The Tritons' final opportunity came in the ninth when Luis Garrido reached on a hit-by-pitch, but the Shippensburg bullpen shut the door to seal the win, 3-0.
