Tritons Edged by Cavaliers

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team fell to Walsh (Ohio) at the Bullard Courts in a split decision, 4-3 on Wednesday.

The Tritons (3-4) fell to Walsh (Ohio) (5-2) after falling in the doubles point and splitting the six singles matches.

Despite having already lost the doubles point, Eckerd's top pairing of Kylie Misdorp and Fiona Orza battled in the No. 1 doubles, defeating the Cavaliers' top pair 7-6 (7-5) in tiebreak.

Eckerd was strong to start singles play, with both Olivia Lindestaf and Misdorp taking the No. 1 and No. 2 positions respectively in two sets. Orza took her first set in the No. 3 position, but dropped set two 6-1 before narrowly falling in the tiebreak 10-8.

With the match knotted at two, Catherine Cole cruised in the No. 4 spot 6-1, 6-2 with Eckerd only needing one more to clinch the match.

Despite the No. 5 and 6 spots going to three sets, it was not enough for Eckerd to upset Walsh, falling 4-3.

The Tritons remain at home to face Division I opponent, Loyola tomorrow at 11:00 AM at the Bullard Courts.
