MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Despite holding a late lead in the opener over the nationally-ranked Buccaneers, the Eckerd softball team ultimately fell 3-2 before dropping the finale 8-1 on the road at No. 24 Barry on Saturday afternoon.
The Bucs took an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame of game one. Eckerd went quiet until Hannah Taylor's lead-off solo blast broke up the no-hit bid in the fourth. Addison Langston delivered an RBI single to plate Ella Coiner for the 2-1 lead later in the frame. Barry added two runs in the fifth for the 3-2 tilt. EC got a runner-in-scoring position in the seventh but was unable to push her across.
Barry scored early in the finale with three runs in the first and four in the second for a 7-0 early advantage. Langston got the Tritons on the board in the fourth on a solo homerun. The Bucs added an insurance run in the sixth for an 8-1 favor. Eckerd looked to rally in the seventh with the first two batters reaching. However, they were unable to convert.
