ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team bounced back from an extra-inning loss to a 9-6 victory to split the series with American International (Mass.) on Wednesday night at the Turley Athletic Complex.
Nearly a mirror-image start to game one, AIC was on the board in the top of the first with a multi-run performance in the bottom of the inning for the Tritons. Zade Stark's three run knock put Eckerd ahead 3-1.
The Yellowjackets shrunk the deficit to one in the second, before a two-run double by Luis Garrido and an RBI single by Christian Cabina gave the Tritons insurance for a 6-2 favor. AIC shortened the distance by scoring on a wild pitch, but the Tritons' offense was relentless, with their third three-run inning in the fifth. The Yellowjackets began to mount a comeback adding three more runs, but Cole Schumaker was able to earn the save for the Tritons in his third career pitching appearance, 9-6.
