ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd baseball team battled late but fell short against Davenport University (Mich.), 9-1, on Wednesday at the Turley Athletic Complex.
The Tritons struggled early as the Panthers built a 6-0 lead in the first two innings. Eckerd's bullpen settled in, with Brady Schumaker and Mitch Henneberry combining to toss three scoreless innings to close the game. DU added a run in the third and two in the sixth for a 9-0 tilt. The Tritons broke through in the ninth as pinch runner Jordan Alzate scored on a Christian Perez single, but the rally fell short. Despite scoring one run with two-outs in the ninth, Eckerd could not close the gap, falling 9-1.
