ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's basketball team could not recover from an early Buccaneers run, falling 75-52 at the McArthur Center on Saturday afternoon.
Barry started the game strong with a 9-2 favor at the midway point of the opening frame. EC rallied to pull within two with one minute left, but the Bucs capped the stanza with five straight points to take a 21-14 lead. The Tritons cut their deficit to five at the midway point of the second frame, but the Bucs responded with an 11-0 run to take a 16-point advantage with 1:36 left. Eckerd cut the deficit to 10 at 36-26 at the break.
The teams swapped baskets over the first three minutes of the second half before going quiet until the 3:02 mark. A late Bucs' triple gave them a 48-38 lead heading into the final frame. An 8-0 run early in the fourth gave Barry a 19-point lead, and Eckerd was unable to recover, falling 75-52.
