FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Eckerd softball team rallied late to take the opener 5-2 before falling in the finale 6-1 to split the doubleheader on the road at Nova Southeastern on Saturday afternoon.
Nova took a 1-0 lead in the first frame of the opener. Eckerd answered to even the score with an Ella Coiner RBI single in the third frame. The Tritons broke open the game in the fifth with four runs to take the lead as Hannah Taylor delivered a two-run single, and Coiner followed with a two-run homerun. NSU rallied for a run in the seventh, but Julia Heter coaxed a groundout to end the game.
The Sharks took the lead early in the finale with a run in the opening frame. They added three in the third and two in the fourth for a 6-0 favor. Taylor gave the Tritons a run in the fifth on an RBI double. Eckerd was unable to rally anymore, falling 6-1.
