ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd women's tennis team swept Warner (Fla.), 7-0 to open the season at the Bullard Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Tritons (1-0) beat the Royals (0-1) after earning the doubles point and taking all six singles matches with two wins by default.
With a win by default in the No. 3 spot, Eckerd only needed to win in one doubles pairing to take the point. Both the top pairing of Kylie Misdorp and Fiona Orza, and the second pairing of Catherine Cole and Olivia Lindestaf, topped their opponents 6-0 to take the doubles point.
Lindestaf and Orza were dominant in the one and two spots respectively, each knocking off their opponents 6-0 in straight sets. Cole and Maialen Idiakez each took their matches in two sets. Cole took the No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-3, while Idiakez took the No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-3.
The Tritons open conference play on Sunday, hosting Lynn at the Bullard Courts at 2:00 PM.
