Men's basketball collects home win over Lincoln

ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd Tritons men's basketball team earned a non-conference victory over the visiting Lincoln (Pa.) Lions on Friday afternoon, winning by a score of 83-71 from inside the McArthur Center.

The Tritons began the game with nine of the first 11 points scored through the opening three minutes, seeing five points from Wyatt Triestman over that span. Miquel Llompart's triple at 13:30 gave Eckerd its first double-digit advantage of the day at a score of 16-5, and held a multi-possession lead all the way through the end of the half. The Lions got within six at 6:40 and again two minutes later, but Jacob Davis' three-pointer put the Tritons back up 11 with three-and-a-half minutes remaining. Lincoln closed the half on a 9-3 run to bring the game to a 43-37 score in favor of Eckerd at the break. Seven different Tritons scored in the first 20 minutes, with Triestman leading all scorers with 11.

The first six points of the second half belonged to Eckerd as they surged to the largest margin of the game following three baskets by three different players. The two teams exchanged baskets for a short period of time before the Lions got back within seven around the 14-minute mark. From there, the differential did not dip below seven or go above 11 over the next eight minutes of action. Triestman's three-point play with under to six to go moved the cushion back to 12 and was followed moments later by a 7-2 scoring run by the Tritons to extended the lead out to 15. Eckerd hit its final six free throw attempts down the stretch to close out the game ahead by double digits.

Four players reached double figures in scoring for the Tritons, led by Davis' 19 points on 9-11 shooting and Triestman's 17 on 6-10 from the floor. Koa Baker also added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Caden Walton added 10 off the bench.

With the win, Eckerd improves to 5-3 on the year. The team will resume conference action on Tuesday at Florida Tech.
