ST. PETERSBURG -- The Eckerd men's soccer team saw its three-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Saturday, falling to the No. 5 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish by a score of 5-0.
The visitors notched three first half goals to gain the upper hand, seeing tallies in the eighth, 13th, and 18th minutes on their way to a 14-1 advantage in shots through the first 45 minutes of action.
Daniel Freire collected the lone attempt for the Tritons in the opening frame.
The shots differential shrunk in the second half, with PBA getting up nine fewer looks throughout the period. Eckerd saw three shots to close out the game, seeing attempts come from Freire,
Sebastian Schmalbach, and
Marcio Costa. Schmalbach had the lone shot on target for the Tritons, while
Duran Van Woerkom made four stops in net. The Sailfish secured their first two goals within the first 15 minutes of the second half to round out the five-goal victory.
Eckerd will be back in action next Saturday for a road matchup against No. 16 Florida Tech.
