Men's soccer defeated by No. 15 Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons men's soccer team dropped a road matchup with the No. 15 ranked Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday by a score of 3-1.

After over 20 minutes of scoreless play to begin the game, the Tritons struck first on a Robert Thorarinsson goal assisted by Harrison Thompson and Stafford Clarke. It was the first shot attempt of the game for Eckerd after the team fended off five looks from the Panthers within the first 10 minutes of the contest. Florida Tech answered with an equalizer in the 26th minute and the game remained tied at one point apiece heading into halftime. The Panthers held an 11-2 advantage in shots after 45 minutes, with the lone other look for the Tritons coming from Manuel Gonzalez late in half.

Despite another lopsided margin in shots in the second, Eckerd fended off numerous looks from the Panthers for the first 25-plus minutes to keep the game tied. Florida Tech went out in front with a tally in the 73rd minute and added an insurance goal 10 minutes later to complete the 3-1 final score. Three of the Tritons' four shots in the second half were on target.

Eckerd will return home on Wednesday for a Teal Out contest against Tampa.
