WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Eckerd Tritons men's soccer team battled back from a two-goal deficit in the second half to earn a 3-3 tie with the Rollins Tars on Wednesday night.
Eckerd struck first with
Marcio Costa notching his fifth goal of the season in the 18th minute, but the Tars grabbed the equalizer in the 30th minute before sending in the go-ahead goal with less than two minutes remaining in the first half. The Tars posted an 8-3 advantage in shots through the first 45 minutes of play, with
Duran Van Woerkom collecting three of his four saves in net during the opening period.
Less than five minutes into the second half, the Tars earned their third tally of the contest to make it a 3-1 game. The Tritons flipped the script with a plus-two advantage in shots in the frame and pulled back within one point three minutes after the Rollins score on
Robert Thorarinsson's second goal of the season. Just over 20 minutes later,
Daniel Freire knotted up the contest with his fourth strike of the season, bringing the score to 3-3 in the in the 73rd minute. Each team put up a shot attempt within two minutes of the Eckerd goal, but neither mustered another opportunity for the final 14 minutes of action as the game resulted in a draw.
Freire led the Tritons with a pair of shot attempts and had the lone assist for the team on Thorarinsson's goal.Â
With the result, Eckerd sits at 2-5-5 on the season and 0-3-3 in the SSC. The team will return home to face No. 5 Palm Beach Atlantic for Senior Day on Saturday.
